This paper discusses the May 2009 nuclear test explosion conducted by North Korea, the second such test following one conducted in October 2006. The author examines how international researchers have sought to determine the nature, location and yield of the explosion based on the available data. He then presents up-to-date data on the number of nuclear explosions conducted since 1945.
