This publication assesses the role of Japan in peace building operations. After reviewing the situation in Afghanistan and the role Japan plays in providing aid package to rebuild the country, the author analyzes the leading role of the country in the peacebuilding approach and argues that Japan was one of the first countries to set its priority on peacebuilding rather than on peacekeeping. She also presents a short series of recommendations for Japan to improve its assistance policy.
