This paper takes stock of US President Barack Obama's first official visit to Asia in November 2009, arguing that the trip will go down in history as a defining moment of his presidency, ushering in a new international economic and political order. The author thereby emphasizes Obama's willingness to work with China as an equal partner to bring peace to a troubled world and to institute a new economic order, thus shifting the focus of US policy from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
