Dec 2009

This publication explores the potential of ocean iron fertilization (OIF) to enhance the oceanic carbon sink. This potential for mitigating the effects of climate change is questioned due to its uncertain efficacy and side effects. The authors challenge the view that research and large-scale experiments on OIF should be stopped, arguing that further research about the geoengineering potential of OIF is necessary.
