This paper looks at the situation in Afghanistan and the dangers of militarily pursuing the Pakistani Taliban, the Afghan Taliban leadership and al-Qaeda for the stability of Pakistan. It then looks at US options in Afghanistan and recommends a political approach which goes beyond merely opening up to the ‘moderate’ Taliban. Finally, it looks at India’s options and advocates proactive involvement.
