This article highlight the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum and its potential to enable a diverse group of nations to enhance their mutual understanding, stability, and security in the 21st century. It explores the role of US policy towards Asia as well as trends in security issues amongst countries within the region itself. These include proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, ethnic conflict, territorial issues, trade relations, and the future of democracy throughout the region.
