Increasingly, the US is weaving a complex web of global interdependence – what might be called a 'hub strategy' – when it comes to weapons acquisition. The paradigmatic case of this approach is the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter, which is being financed and built in collaboration with eight partner nations, but nearly every 'American' platform now has substantial foreign content. How has globalization come to the American defense industry and what are its consequences for US national security?
