This paper provides an overview of free trade areas (FTA) including, what FTAs are, why countries form FTAs, FTAs in the context of US trade policy, the Obama administration’s policy on FTAs, the economic impact of FTAs, and the what the implications of FTAs are for Congressional decision making.
