This report provides an overview of US-Mexico trade and economic relations, the Mexican economy, implications of the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) for Mexico, the effects of NAFTA, and bilateral trade issues between the two countries. It states that bilateral economic and trade relationship with Mexico is of interest to US policymakers because of Mexico’s proximity to the United States and because of the strong cultural and economic ties that connect the two countries. The author also claims it is in the US national interest to have a prosperous and democratic Mexico as a neighboring country.
