The winner of the April 2010 elections in Sudan is incumbent president Omar al-Bashir. This gives his effectively dictatorship government greater legitimacy, but at the same time postpones the danger of civil war breaking out again between the northern and southern parts of the country until the referendum on division of the country is held in 2011.
