At the end of May 2008, the five countries bordering the Arctic (A5) - Denmark, Canada, Norway, the Russian Federation and the United States of America - adopted the Ilulissat Declaration outlining the contours of their cooperation in the region. The carefully-worded declaration includes principles that are to guide the legal arrangements, research and management of the natural resources and ecosystem in the region.
