This monograph evaluates the performance of each of the three core criminal justice system departments of South Africa: Safety and Security, Justice and Constitutional Development, and Correctional Services. Chapter 1 analyzes the latest available official crime statistics at the time of writing. The budget allocation of the criminal justice system departments is analyzed in Chapter 2. Chapters 3, 4, and 5 focus on the performance of the Departments mentioned above. In the concluding chapter it is argued that the three criminal justice system departments performed satisfactorily during the period under review.
