Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, conducted in an indirect format and mediated by the U.S., have been underway since 9 May. Between the Israeli ruling coalition’s negative position on Palestinian statehood and intra-Palestinian divisions, the negotiations have a small chance of succeeding. Still, the resumption of the peace process evidences that the U.S. administration is determined to push for the resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict as it increasingly recognizes that the conflict is damaging the U.S.’s position and interests in the Middle East.
