This yearbook addresses the tensions on a global scale between the global ‘green zones’, populated by political elites, and the global ‘red zone’, a heterogeneous, complex world full of energy, activity, ideas and debate but also violence, frustration and extremism. The yearbook throws a skeptical view on the concept of "Global Civil Society (GCS)". It also addresses the Arab perspective on GCS as well as the global connections between civil society, democracy and power.
