The 2008 conflict in the South Caucasus involving the separatist states of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and Georgia and Russia remains heavily shrouded in the fog of war. Reliable details remain very sketchy and there is a major propaganda effort on all sides directly involved and from a number of indirectly involved parties. Furthermore, events are, of course, ongoing and evolving.
