This testimony argues that while the US normally sees China as an East Asian power, China’s relations with Afghanistan and Pakistan demonstrate that its interests and influence extend South and West as well. The author's testimony offers an analysis of the strategic and geopolitical implications of China’s engagement in Afghanistan and Pakistan on American interests. These issues have important connotations for the region, for US-China relations, and most importantly for US national security.
