In this testimony to the US House Armed Services Committee, Michèle Flournoy addresses the readiness of US armed forces for ongoing and future missions, and recommends steps to be taken to strengthen the US's strategic posture. Since the attacks of September 11th, 2001, the US military has performed Herculean feats to protect and advance the national security. In Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere around the world, they have conducted operations to defeat terrorism, counter insurgency, build the capacity of partners and restore security and stability.
