Two years after the August war, the consequences of the violence and subsequent failures to progress resolution of the conflict still affect communities living along the administrative boundary line (ABL) between Shida Kartli and South Ossetia/the Tskhinvali region. No major incidents of violence have occurred since 2008 and the level of humanitarian assistance provided to communities in Shida Kartli has been impressive. However, the crisis response is coming to an end and contact and movement across the ABL have become increasingly difficult, badly affecting those dependent on cross-border interaction for their personal wellbeing and that of their communities.
