The world's Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) requires countries without nuclear weapons to accept inspections by the IAEA. The purpose is to assure that these NPT members — referred to in the Treaty as "non- nuclear-weapon States" — do not make nuclear weapons.
