This paper seeks to explain the origin and causes of the conflict in eastern Sudan, its regional dimensions, considers the principal actors, provides some background to the negotiations between the Eastern Front and the Government of Sudan (GOS), and ends with a consideration of the peace agreement and some projections for the future.
