Nov 2010

This report summarizes an Allied Command Transformation-led roundtable held in September 2010 which focused on the dual requirements of promoting stability and protecting access within the global commons (GC). Debates about the global role of NATO were a key feature, with the US calling on NATO to assume a leading role in GC strategy. It became clear that NATO’s response to the challenges of the GC would require a wide range of non-military tools including political and diplomatic approaches, as well as extensive cooperation with commercial, industry and legal stakeholders.
