The first section of the paper draws upon the experiences of civil society efforts in Sudan, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, Angola, South Africa, Kenya, and Israel/Palestine. These seven case studies tell the stories of efforts on the ground that bring communties together in innovative ways to rebuild society. The second section of the paper is divided into three areas: 1) The comparative advantage of civil society efforts through common strategies from the case studies; 2) recommendations to the UN based on the case studies; and, 3) additional recommendations from the Conflict Transformation Working Group.
