China is taking decisive steps to put itself in the centre of the challenges that are taking place in the South Asia Region and using its economic might as a persuasive instrument to get accommodation of other Asian nations to its ascent. Several obstacles stand in its way, namely the shady heritage of the Cold War Era, the remembrance of Japanese atrocities and the intended creation of an East Asian community, departing from ASEAN group of nations. How fair is China decided to play in this game? What are the chances of Asian nations to resist to any temptation of hegemony? This article looks to the interdependences between China and its neighbors and to the vigilant role of the United States.
