The Lieber Code of April 1863 was an instruction signed by US President Abraham Lincoln to the Union Forces of the US during the American Civil War which dictated how soldiers should conduct themselves in times of war. The articles mainly deal with martial law, military jurisdiction, treatment of spies and deserters, and how prisoners of war should be treated.
