The Convention protects human rights and fundamental freedoms in Europe, and was signed on 4 November 1950. The Convention affirms the obligation for Member States to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms such as right to life, prohibition of torture, prohibition of slavery and forced labor, right to liberty and security, and the right to a fair trial.
