The relationship between environmental degradation and political instability—whether it is insecurity or violent conflict—is poorly understood. Accordingly, policy interventions do not reliably address these links. This report identifies gaps and opportunities in environment, conflict, and cooperation research and policy, and aims to promote collaboration within the UN family and with other organizations.
