Many authors mention Crimea when speaking about rebellious autonomous republics of former Soviet Union: Nagorno-Karabakh, South Ossetia, Chechnya and Abkhazia. All of these republics except Crimea have experienced wars or other conflicts against their metropolitan countries. Crimea’s peace has been made possible through a three-pronged conflict blocking system: “Crimean Russians against metropolitan country”, “Crimean Russians against Crimean Tatars”, and “Crimean Tatars against metropolitan country”.
