On July 18, 2007, the International Peace Institute (formerly International Peace Academy) co-hosted an international policy conference in New York titled, "Pacific Settlement of Border Disputes: Lessons from the Resolution of the Bakassi Dispute." The main aims of the conference were to deepen the knowledge of the international community on border disputes in Africa and to provide a sophisticated understanding of lessons learned from the resolution of such localized cases as Bakassi since these may be applicable elsewhere.
