Gene Sharp is known for his extensive writings on nonviolent struggle: he has been called both the "Machiavelli of nonviolence" and the "Clausewitz of nonviolent warfare". Sharp's “From Dictatorship to Democracy” has inspired dissidents around the world, including in Burma, Bosnia, Estonia and Zimbabwe - and now Tunisia and Egypt.
