The March 2011 signing of a cooperation agreement between Russia and Belarus on the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Grodno Oblast ends lengthy negotiations on the issue. The power plant will be important for the neighboring countries — first and foremost for Lithuania, both for environmental reasons and due to Lithuania’s plans to build its own nuclear power facility.
