The inaugural session of one of the youngest international organizations with global aspirations, the International Renewable Energy Association (IRENA), met in Abu Dhabi in April 2011. The organization has a unique opportunity to more actively engage in public debate, which appears indispensable for attaining its goal of promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
