This policy brief looks at the emerging role of the G20. The authors argue that the G20 has indeed been in the vanguard of some notable measures designed to lift the global economy out of recession. They warn, however, that the group's emerging role is not all good news. Indeed, some major concerns must be addressed if the G20 is not to prove deeply harmful to multilateralism and global good governance. They conclude that the G20 must demonstrate it is not a new forum with old vices that will pursue ‘more of the same’, just with a new set of partners.
