The EU has in many ways reacted well to the Arab spring, but must now gradually move beyond its stance of ‘listening and helping’. It should map out a geostrategic vision for how the Arab spring conditions its own long-term interests. To do this, the EU must seek to influence a nascent set of underlying economic, governance and security dynamics across the Middle East.
