After nine years as a member of the Swiss government, Micheline Calmy-Rey has officially resigned from the Federal Council. With her vision of 'active neutrality,' the former Foreign Minister had pushed for Switzerland to play a more visible role in international affairs. In her farewell speech, Calmy-Rey reiterated the importance of maintaining Switzerland’s international presence: those who passively stand at the side-lines fail to represent Switzerland’s national interests and limit its impact and opportunities, Calmy-Rey stated.
