This paper summarizes the findings from an in-depth empirical study of all publicly-confirmed cases of Islamist terrorism involving Australians. It briefly describes the domestic situation of Australian Muslims and gives an overview of Islamist terrorism cases to date, including the number and location of cases and the level of threat they presented, both domestically and internationally. It also looks at the background characteristics of offenders and details of radicalization and examines the national counter-terrorism (CT) strategy, with a focus on counter-radicalization initiatives.
