Following Japan’s nuclear crisis of March 2011, the political and social landscape for energy has been dramatically altered. By using a mix of top-down directives and well-funded policy instruments Japan had developed one of the most advanced commercial nuclear power programs in the world and reached widespread support for nuclear power. The crisis has raised environmental concerns and health fears, as well as skepticism among Japanese citizens regarding the information they receive from their government.
