The report argues that India should not compromise its freedom of navigation in international waters and trade interests in the South China Sea. Legal aspects need to be highlighted in all bilateral/multilateral dialogues between the claimants to the South China Sea, under the supervision of the UNCLOS, argue the authors. Additionally, the international community must push for effective management of the region by China, Vietnam and Philippines. Disputing parties in the region should consider the economic interests of other countries and avoid militarization, while the media should act with restraint.
