This brief analyzes the implications of the 2007 Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) aerial attacks on airbases in Sri Lanka for India. It argues that Indian policy makers could consider a more proactive stance toward the conflict and try to persuade the government of Sri Lanka to avert a humanitarian crisis. On the security front, India has to ensure that LTTE does not become a major concern for India, while taking the possibly negative effects of such a policy stance on the government of Sri Lanka’s willingness to devolve powers to the moderate Tamil elements into account.
