This publication on the political situation in Burma is based on the commissioned report by the international law firm DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. The report comprehensively addresses the role of the Burmese military government in causing both domestic and regional insecurity and instability and describes how the Burmese military junta has become a direct threat to the peace and security of its own people as well as the entire region of South Asia. The report summarizes the relevant problems and challenges in Burma and places the issues in the context of past UN Security Council cases. The authors conclude that action by the UN Security Council is necessary to preserve long-term peace and security in South Asia and to permit national reconciliation in Burma. The authors hence call for the UN Security Council to take up the issue of Burma.
