This paper looks at Poland's first EU Presidency. A new member state is usually confronted with an anxious question when it takes over the EU Presidency for the first time. “Are they up to the job?” At the end of the Polish Presidency one can heave a sigh of relief and say that Poland is certainly up to the job. And, more to the point, it is something it likes doing. The new Poland is strong in economic terms, politically stable and pro-European.
