This article examines how integral the perceived convergence of US-Kazakh interests on key nuclear non-proliferation issues is to the bilateral relationship, and the implications of this for the structure of the international anti-proliferation coalition. The author concludes by providing a set of recommendations to strengthen bilateral cooperation on non-proliferation issues. These include supporting the universalization of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), bringing the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) into force, and enhancing the export control regimes to curtail illicit nuclear trafficking.
