This report looks at the situation in a new area of instability in Sudan - the Beja region in eastern Sudan - at the end of 2006 and beginning of 2007. It particularly discusses the Eastern Peace Agreement and at how it fits in with the other peace agreements already negotiated in the country. The author argues that this regionalized approach to peacekeeping bodes ill for the sustainability of overall peace in Sudan, and is unlikely to improve the accountability and responsiveness of the Sudanese government.
