This report provides an update on the situation in São Tomé and Príncipe (STP) in April 2004 following the overthrow of the government in July 2003. Most notably, both the July 2003 coup and the islands’ future oil wealth have increased donor countries’ readiness to provide military aid to strengthen and modernize STP’s small armed forces.
