This paper explores Pakistani interest in being a major actor in regional anti-terror operations and stability building processes. US proposals for Pakistan’s engagement in the region require a number of commitments from Pakistan while tensions between the two countries has grown over issues such as the Pakistan government’s negotiations with militants, US drone attacks and a failure to recognize Pakistan’s reservations towards India’s increasingly dominant role in the region. The author argues that if Pakistan is to have a meaningful role in the proposed regional solution for Afghanistan, it is imperative to understand its concerns and reservations.
