This report discusses the economic situation in Guinea-Bissau and its impact on security and effective governance in the region. Guinea-Bissau is one of the poorest countries in the world marred by a decade of political and military instability. The author argues that the international community has so far focused on containing the worst case scenario of massive war with a bloated emphasis on security before development. However, the peacebuilding policies implemented so far appear to have given rise to a simulation of peace rather than tangible and sustainable peacebuilding results.
