This paper discusses Israel’s approach to Turkey and Iran in its 'periphery doctrine' which involves forming alliances with non-Arab and non-Muslim regional actors and Israel's search for a Middle Eastern identity. In the 1950s, the 'periphery strategy' led to alliances with Turkey and Iran, who were then viewed as natural allies against the hostile and powerful Arab 'center' spearheaded by Nasserism. The author examines the state of these alliances and relationships today.
