The author of this policy brief contends that the primary objective for Europe and America following the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt will be to see stability there restored as quickly as possible, whatever the cost. To this end, they are likely to endorse a modified hegemonic political movement in Tunisia and an army-backed regime in Egypt, both of which can guarantee political stability and continuity. The author argues that Western policy makers wrongly link political Islam with extremist violence. He adds that the blockade on the Gaza Strip will have to be lifted.
