This is a transcript of a speech by Yvette Coope, UK Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs, on key points of the Labour party's approach to foreign policy while in opposition. It examines the Conservative Liberal Democrat coalition government’s approach to foreign policy as a whole and highlights areas of concern such as economic policy, the risks of a reduced focus on human rights, climate change and international poverty. The speaker argues that the prime minister’s foreign policy is driven by narrow short term domestic political considerations.
