This report focuses on mapping existing social protection programs and analyzing their effectiveness in addressing poverty and inequality in Nigeria. The authors first outline the methodological approach and present the social protection conceptual framework which guided the research project. They then discuss the poverty, vulnerability and inequality profile of Nigeria and examine existing social protection policy and programming in the country. They further discuss the impacts of programs where data permit, and the gaps and challenges related to the effectiveness of social protection programs and policies.
