This report examines the role of cash transfers in Nigeria and discusses the appropriateness and feasibility of the different types in the Nigerian context. More specifically, the authors present a poverty, vulnerability and inequality profile of Nigeria and analyze the effectiveness of COPE cash transfers, drawing on fieldwork in four states. They further examine the potential role of cash transfers in the context of Nigeria‘s high rates of poverty and inequality and also analyze the constraints faced in implementing transfers.
